The 17-50mm F/4 Di III VXD (Model A068) covers a versatile zoom range from ultra-wide through standard focal lengths—no need to switch lenses. From landscapes containing dynamic compositions of sprawling vistas to casual snaps and portraits in the standard range, you'll be amazed by the rich variation that's possible with a single compact lens. The angle of coverage near the 50mm end closely approximates normal human vision. Advanced optical performance with rich bokeh at F4
The optical construction of the 17-50mm F4 consists of 15 elements in 13 groups. With the precise arrangement of special lens elements, including three LD (Low Dispersion), one GM (Glass Molded Aspherical) and two hybrid aspherical lens elements, chromatic and other aberrations are effectively suppressed. The resolving power across the entire frame with clarity and sharpness, and full use of the rich bokeh delivered by the F4 wide-open aperture get you close to that perfect shot.

Outstanding image quality throughout the entire 50-400mm zoom range
The 17-50mm F4 weighs just 460g (16.2oz) and is a compact 114.4mm (4.5in) long, a size that's well-balanced even when attached to a Sony mirrorless camera body. The lens has a fixed barrel length and internal zoom mechanism that minimizes changes to the center of gravity while shooting. It’s easy to maintain framing while shooting still images and video, and it can be easily balanced when paired with a video rig or gimbal stabilizer. The highly portable 17-50mm F4 features Moisture-Resistant Construction and employs a Fluorine Coating on the front and back lens surfaces, providing durability in natural environments such as trekking, camping, and other outdoor activities, and making it more convenient to clean the lens when necessary.
High-speed, high-precision AF is extremely quiet and ideal for shooting video and still images
The lens’s AF drive uses the VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor focus mechanism. The AF drive features high-speed operations and achieves positional accuracy in miniscule 0.005mm increments. Equipped with high-speed and high-precision autofocus among the best in its class, the 17-50mm F4 ensures you won’t miss a shot when out and about or traveling. With fast and accurate focusing on moving objects, the lens can reliably track subjects whose movements are difficult to predict such as small children and pets, making it great for shooting video. Additionally, thanks to quiet operation during AF, the lens can be used with peace of mind when shooting still images or video in noise-sensitive settings like school plays and weddings.

Minimum Object Distance of 0.19m (7.5in) to capture tiny subjects in vivid detail
The 17-50mm F4 achieves an astounding MOD of 0.19m (7.5in) and maximum magnification ratio of 1:4.6 at the wide end, and 0.3m (11.8in) and maximum magnification ratio of 1:3.8 at the 50mm end. With a working distance of around 5.7cm (2.3in) at the 17mm end, you can practically get as close to the subject as you wish. This allows you the flexibility to shoot in cramped places such as small rooms or inside a camping tent, without needing to reposition. It also lets you enjoy compositions that make use of beautiful bokeh and unique angles.
Compatible with TAMRON Lens Utility™ software
The 17-50mm F4 is compatible with the dedicated TAMRON Lens Utility software (for PC and Android OS) that was developed in-house by TAMRON3. TAMRON Lens Utility lets users change lens settings, assign camera body functions, and update to the latest firmware4 when necessary. In addition, when using the Mobile version, functions unique to mobile version can be operated remotely without touching the lens. Users may customize functions for various still photography and videography shooting styles, thereby providing a more personalized and fulfilling shooting experience.
